About Us

Climate Security is a joint project of Friends of the Earth and Voters for Peace to highlight the inter-relationship between global climate change and global conflict. The concept of climate security encompasses the relationship between climate and war and militarism as well as economic and environmental security. The Climate Security Project seeks to encourage a shift from an outmoded militarized economy to a green economy which is more efficient, more localized and better distributes its resources and bounty, while restoring the natural world upon which it depends. On this site, we will provide news and information to get out the word that a changing climate combined with the broader environmental crisis is THE emerging threat to peace and security – not only in the developing world but in so called developed economies.

Voters for Peace is educating, organizing and activating voters to end the occupation of Iraq and prevent future wars of aggression. Our mission is to mobilize anti-war voters into a visible and effective political force that cannot be ignored. We provide voters with the information and tools they need to be effective peace advocates; this includes educating their friends and family on the occupation, writing letters to the media, and holding congressional and presidential candidates accountable. Friends of the Earth was established in the U.S. in 1969. Over the last 39 years, Friends of the Earth, its members and its activists have: been the first to raise the alarm and draw attention to new environmental problems; stopped over 150 destructive dams and water projects worldwide; banned international whaling; pressed and won landmark regulations of strip mines and oil tankers; reformed the World Bank to address environmental and human rights concerns; and eliminated billions in taxpayer subsidies to corporate polluters.
