Environmental Roundtable Discussion
These videos are the first from a series of multi-disciplinary roundtables on the issues of climate change and national security organized by Friends of the Earth and Voters for Peace in 2008. We will be continuing these discussions, interviewing key people and videotaping events relevant to Climate Security and posting them here. Climate Security will be bringing you the views of people from around the world, from a variety of professional backgrounds with different perspectives on the issues that surround the complicated relationship between climate change and national security, including military, economic and environmental security as well as what the United States and world should be doing to effectively respond to this global challenge. #18 What will it take to get Americans to see the connections between security and climate change? On Tuesday, April 14, 2008, a roundtable discussion was held in Washington, D.C., at the office of Friends of the Earth. The topic generally dealt with the nexus between Climate Change, National Security and Global Security, in relationship to other relevant and evolving domestic and international issues. The participants were: Elizabeth Bast, Friends of the Earth; Kevin Zeese, Voters for Peace; Linda Schade, Climate Security Project for Voters for Peace; Paul Walker, Global Green USA; Brent Blackwelder, Friends of the Earth and Peter Driscoll, ActionAID, USA. Ms. Schade also served as the moderator for the event. In each of these 24 videos, the participants, who are featured, are identified by name. A video of the complete roundtable discussion (91 minutes) can be found on Google, here.
